Magic Breaker, a thank you.

To every person
who keeps reaching for the light
when the darkness is thickest.

The second book in Keepers of a Broken Land is now available! I’ve already chatted a lot about this book, with so much joy, so I thought I’d just share the dedication (above) and acknowledgments of Magic Breaker. Because life is weird and beautiful, and I couldn’t do this without so many fine folk, more so than I could name even here.

Thank you to you, too, for being here. You matter, and I appreciate you. 💖

MAGIC BREAKER ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

While writing this series, my life took a turn when my mother was diagnosed with dementia. My first published book, which started this entire series, Princess of Light, was dedicated to my mother: “For always seeking the light.”

Every book since has been partially dedicated to her, for her strength, her love of life, and her kindness. Through her/our new reality, we’ve met lots of amazing people who have supported, helped, and shared laughter, and tears, with us. Everywhere mom goes, she brings that same kindness, that relentless stubbornness to find les petites joies de la vie (the small joys of life), no matter what.

So, as always, a major thank you to my mother, who consistently reminds me that life is about moments and petites joies.

Through it all, my partner, Kerri Elizabeth Gerow, has been relentlessly supportive with baked goods, fun, and lots of laughter. My family, as always, is a well of strength:Jessica Torrance, Jean-François Bilodeau, George Henri Bilodeau, Ada-Marie Bilodeau, Karen and Dave Henderson, and Kathy and Martin Gallant.

Every writing life is made better by those we surround ourselves with. Major thanks to my little community: Brandon Crilly, Jennifer Brozek, Lydia M. Hawke, Ed Greenwood, Julie E. Czerneda, Derek Künsken, Evan May, Kevin Hearne, Kate Heartfield, ’Nathan Burgoine… and so many more.

Thanks to my beta readers: Kerri Elizabeth Gerow, Nicole Lavigne, Lina El-Samrout, and Christina Yother.

If you’re thinking AI cover art is “good enough,” you’re missing out on A-good art, and also B-working with an artist. Simon Carr brought Shirina to life for this cover, and helped me solidify some of the thinking around Circle wear (seriously, working with an artist is amazing, and Simon is among the best)! Also thanks to Deranged Doctor Design, who took Simon’s wonderful art and turned it into a cover.

And, as always, a major thanks to fans of the first series, Heirs of a Broken Land, for still being here after all these years, cheering the characters, and me, on. I can’t even begin to describe how your notes and messages encourage and lift me up.

The road may get darker and at times is hard to see, but the journey is always, will alway be, worthwhile, and in no small part thanks to all of you.
