I wrote Heirs of a Broken Land twenty years ago. It was very much the book I wanted to read then, with kickass heroines who married for thrones and armies, if at all. (Nothing against romantasy! I love it. But my books aren’t it.)
Once the trilogy was released, I had plans for another book, where they finally defeated the evil god.
But those plans would have to wait. For twenty years.
Some enemies are not so easily killed.
Minor spoiler: They win the war, sure, but there’s another one coming. That was always a possibility, a dark shadow on the horizon, in the crackling Wall of Loss above the Bloody Mountains.
When I got my rights back for my series, I was ready to write that final book. But it no longer fit what I wanted to read. Twenty years had passed. I’d grown as a writer, and a person. So, instead of a fourth book, I decided to write a second trilogy.
I’m twenty years older, and so I made my characters twenty years older, too. They’re older, have saved the world once, and are ready for the next battle.
They’ve had two decades to plan, but so has their enemy…
Reading Order Need Not Apply
Technically it all starts with Princess of Light, but if you feel more like kickass middle-age heroines, you can start with Oath Breaker, too! You can always go back to read the first trilogy after you’ve read the second one, to see how they met, how their friendship was forged, and who they lost along the way.
